Today in Presidential History
I've been slacking off on this feature of late; sorry about that.

But today is a red-letter day in Presidential History. It was on this day in 1789 that George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States of America. The ceremony took place on the balcony of Federal Hall, on Wall Street in New York City (which was, at the time, the national capital). Washington's inauguration ended to longest period of time in US history when there was a vice president, but no president (first Vice President John Adams had arrived in town earlier, and was sworn in on 21 April 1789). Washington is the only president to have been sworn in on 30 April, and one of only a handful who were sworn in on two different days.

In somewhat related news, [info]carrenstrock pointed out to me that Amazon now has a cover image of my book on the listing. I'm not sure if this is the final cover, since it's the same image the publisher sent me a few months back as the first draft, but it feels good to know there is actually a cover with my name on it.

Nice to see that there's a cover.

Who is this [info]carrenstrock person? Your mother? Oh my! Who knew you had a mother? :) I hope you don't think that a published book with your name on it is going to count as a mother's day gift.

Oh, and while I'm here talking to ya, please pass along a "good luck" to Kit today. She'll know (and you probably will too) what it's about.

I tried to come up with an appropriately snarky response, but then I gave up. However, keep watching this space for an announcement of The Presidential Book of Snark (or is that The Snarky Book of Lists?).

Snark doesn't bother me. Thirty years ago, after being inspired by reading Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, I committed Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark to memory. If we're ever on a car trip with two hours to kill, I'll happily subject you to it.

:)

And I have just pre-ordered the book!

Blush, grin. And apparently, your faith in my book has activated Amazon's sales rank tracking number thing, because now my book has a sales rank. Great—another thing for me to obsess over (wink).

Seriously, thanks.

You do realize that your book is exactly the sort of book Nomi and I would want to own, even without your name on it? With your name on it, of course, it becomes even more valuable. :-)

Seriously, you're welcome.
